Baldur’s Gate 3 Achieves 5.2 Million Sales Mark

Baldur’s Gate 3 Achieves 5.2 Million Sales Mark

Baldur’s Gate 3 has garnered significant popularity since its release on August 3rd. It has surpassed all predictions and received an immense reception from fans, earning the distinction of being the second-largest game on Steam in 2023 with approximately 900K concurrent players.

A recent report from the Belgium Embassy in China unveiled another milestone achieved by the game. According to this report, Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold 5.2 million copies on Steam as of August 16th.

Why is it important?

Achieving such a huge sales mark is a significant indicator of the game’s commercial success. It highlights the game’s popularity and the extent to which it resonates with players.

This sales figure encompasses the game’s sales during the early access period, which amounted to 2.5 million units. This suggests that the game has achieved sales of 2.7 million units in less than two weeks since its launch. Furthermore, there is an anticipation that the game’s success will continue to grow upon its launch on PlayStation next month.

Initially, the CEO of Larian Studios expected to achieve 100K concurrent players on Steam. However, the game surprised the developers by attracting almost 900K players, far exceeding the developers’ expectations.

Baldur’s Gate 3 also received positive feedback on Steam, with nearly 94% of 183K reviews being favorable. It also maintains an average score of 96 on Metacritic.

The game’s success is anticipated to raise the standards for upcoming releases and RPG titles within the industry. Furthermore, it solidifies Larian Studios’ position as a prominent developer in the industry.
