Baldur’s Gate 3 Breaks Records with 875K Concurrent Steam Players

Baldur’s Gate 3 Breaks Records with 875K Concurrent Steam Players

Baldur’s Gate 3 was introduced earlier this month and has surpassed the initial expectations of its developers. Since its launch, the player count on Steam has been steadily increasing.

The game has had a strong start on the PC platform and currently holds the position of the second-largest game launch on Steam in 2023 so far. However, Hogwarts Legacy holds the top spot as the most popular Steam launch of 2023.

As of August 13th, Baldur’s Gate 3 reached its peak with 875,343 concurrent players on Steam, surpassing its previous record of 814,666 CCU achieved on August 6th. It’s now only 3,965 concurrent players away from matching Hogwarts Legacy and could potentially surpass it in the coming days.

Why is it important?

This achievement is significant, particularly when considering that even Larian Studios did not anticipate such high numbers. It underscores the game’s popularity, quality, and impact on the gaming industry.

Players of the game are rallying to exceed the threshold of 1 million concurrent players. In a Reddit post, players not only celebrated this record-breaking feat but also encouraged each other to achieve this milestone.

While the target of 1 million players hasn’t been reached yet, the game has secured the 9th position on Steam’s all-time chart of concurrent players.

The game’s launch went smoothly, with no significant issues encountered. Furthermore, the Larian Studios team is proactively addressing minor problems and has just released an update to tackle those issues.

On Metacritic, Baldur’s Gate 3 boasts an impressive average score of 97, tentatively securing its position as the top-rated game of the year. However, it’s important to note that the number of reviews for BG3 on Metacritic is currently limited to 21.
