Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Says Xbox Series S Is Not Holding Gaming Back

Baldur’s Gate 3 Developer Says Xbox Series S Is Not Holding Gaming Back

The Xbox Series S is a budget-friendly video gaming console developed by Microsoft. It provides a cheaper option for people to enter the current generation of gaming. However, its lower-end hardware can pose difficulties for gaming developers.

There have been some debates in the industry about whether the Xbox Series S is holding back the current generation of consoles. Larian Studios’ CEO, Swen Vincke, has recently shared his opinion about this matter in an interview with Skill Up. He said that Xbox Series S is not holding gaming consoles back; it only needs some adjustments to be developed properly.

Why is it important?

The Xbox Series S is the cheapest version of the Xbox console, so gamers need to know that it can handle modern games.

Swen has revealed that Microsoft’s team faced some challenges in getting split-screen features to work with the Xbox Series S, as it requires more memory. As a result, the team is currently focusing on bringing Baldur’s Gate 3 to PlayStation 5 and PC. He believes that Baldur’s Gate 3 will be available on the Xbox platform after a few months.

Swen said that, like other platforms, Xbox Series S also has some challenges, but it is not awful. He also pointed toward the potential release of PlayStation 7 that, if it existed, would introduce a choice for developers. They would have to decide whether to focus on developing next-generation hardware or gather more players using older-generation consoles.

This choice is important for determining the reach and accessibility of the game. Preferring next-generation hardware may provide the best visuals and performance, but it may limit the accessibility of the game to the audience. On the other hand, moving towards the old generation would attract a wide range of players.
